EDIT: Sorry if anyone was offended by this

I'm not saying the people alerting others are stupid just the people making up bullshit without checking their facts are stupid. Since Deviantart has had a virus before on one of it's ads (external yes, but still) I understand why you're worried. But that's exactly why you should check out the official details from Deviantart itself and do some experimenting yourself if you know what you're doing.
Deviantart never once said it had a virus. It said it was having a spam attack from a bogus website which is something completely different. And the people hyping this up know it.
Oh man as if the stories about this virus crap weren't already ridiculous enough. I must have heard at least ten different versions of this chainletter about getting dangerous viruses that'll take over the world.
T_T Seriously. How old are you?
Do you really have so little to do in your life that you have to drama hype something that people can get rid of easily? (That's if it exists.) And then afterwards look like a thick shit and go 'I didn't know. It looked very obvious.' And UPDATE!!! on your journals

with loads of made up versions of the story.
Let me just spoil your psychotic little world of lies and made up crap for a moment, where drama queens and mary sue people run free and wild, and cunts tell their friends that their family's details are in danger because of a virus they made up, and tell you what's really going on.
First of all, there is a webpage that has been spread through links like SOMEONE WROTE SOMETHING ABOUT YOU ON YOUR BLOG, or YOU'VE BEEN SENT A VALENTINE or something. And the link, as if it couldn't be more obvious, is not deviantart . com / TheRestOfTheUrl or something, it's da.login.somethingorother.
Now the first thing a victim might think is that Deviantart has expanded, or gotten a new feature, but of course there's the fact that if something did happen like that Deviantart would've been saturating the website with attention seeking news reports of expanditure due to their # number of years anniversary, and be releasing T-Shirts and competitions and other shit too for weeks ahead. After all, Deviantart is a BIG website and if it was going to expand, it would expand BIG so it would be a BIG THING.
Another point is that people use Deviantart for buying and selling, and therefore for security purposes, if Deviantart suddenly got a second url they would tell you about it before hand. Though the website doesn't offer to save your credit card details to your account as far as I know, you would have to do that through Paypal, which has got nothing to do with Deviantart, and therefore isn't relevant.
But of course, an expansion wouldn't be the case because any intelligent lifeform on this planet would've realised long ago to CHECK THE ADDRESS before they start logging into a webpage that they were supposedly just on a few seconds ago, and has now logged them out for no apparent reason. (It's the kind of stuff you learn when you're six years old.. err.. people O_O T_T LITERALLY.)
Now when you get logged out it's because Deviantart is under maintenence, and therefore it would say so in big letters on the header. UNDER MAINTENENCE.
Or if your cookies expire (which only happens on banking and highly expensive educational sites or highly secured pages, or these timed exam websites) then you would know about that too and it would be extremely obvious what had happened.
The only other possibility is that you would have been banned, since a ban would kick you off immediately with no explanation until you relogin in. Which would kickstart my mind into thinking WTF - why did I just get banned?? WTF is going on?? Have I done something?? And therefore BEFORE relogging in, I would check my cyber enviroment for information such as THE ADDRESS and ERRORS ON THE PAGE, or even if I happened to click logout accidently by typing out a comment, hitting the tab key by mistake which would highly logout, and pressing enter to send my message and then getting logged out by mistake.
Especially if you've just clicked on a suspicious looking link to do with myspace like blogs and online valentines from people or websites you don't even know. In fact if I got a creepy valentine link the very FIRST thing I would assume is that it would be a virus, or porn site that would give you a virus or something.
So that's the first thing - how fake the comments look. The second thing we're going to look at is does this virus actually exist?
The answer is... no.
You see, being someone who isn't stupid enough to save my bank details on this computer, login to Ebay, CEX, Amazon or any other buying sites on this computer, and who doesn't share highly confidential information on this computer when I know for a fact that I download shitloads of films, games, music and comics which could quite easily still be viruses no matter how well they're disguised in size, file type, appearance and website, I felt I had nothing to lose.
Obviously this is going to sound stupid at first, but the only way to find out is to hit the tiger in the eye and login to that website and see if it has a core or is just one password grabbing page. So after making a backup of my clean computer to my external hard drive, then securing my computer so tight it was almost locked down, logging out of MSN, removing my external hardrive, writeable CDs and any other obvious thing you should do before tackling a chainletter virus like this, I made a fake account and went to see what all the fucking fuss was about.
The only passwords I have saved are my hotmail and yahoo ones, and stuff like fanfiction.net and so forth. Whereas some people might still go OMG but you could lose those accounts too you idiot, the bottom line is these people are attacking Deviantart, not Fanfiction.Net, or LiveJournal (which I never use anyway) or any other fan/website, because Deviantart is a big trading website accessed by millions of people PER HOUR. And why? Because these people want CONTROL over other people. They find going into other people's accounts exciting, and yes, at the same time they could be grabbing hold of confidential information too. But I seriously doubt it as like said before, credit card details aren't saved.
Beside I hardly think criminals are going to go after accounts of people who write fanfiction about talking hobo cats that live on the street (Top Cat), or flying demon rats that have fetishes for fucked up people who look as though they've died three hours ago. (I am therefore talking about Batman and Joker before you start panicking like the little bitches that you are and think I'm slashing something sick and go running to the police with my accounts details before you know the whole story.)
Anyway the point is, if I had to lose anything at all through doing this, it would merely mean that I would have to format (which would take a few minutes) and put back my clean version of Windows XP on here with all my programs, files and contacts back in their original places. Which would be done automatically when restoring the operating system - because that's exactly what a backup is jackasses

So after doing that, I expected to get a virus. I checked my CPU and it was still running at 6% (which was RamIdle freeing up memory so quite obviously I didn't get anything.) I left my computer on all day and the only thing that happened was the account posted some messages and that was it. The actual website that people claim is 'Deviantart' is just one page and therefore is obviously a trick. There is no keylogger, or virus, or anything else that attacks your PC because otherwise you would know about it. It's just a bunch of people hyping it up to look big on their blogs, and so they can get a thrill out of it.
Quite a disappointment if I must say so myself

I was looking forward to tackling an awesomely challenging virus that I haven't encountered since I was six years of age since it's fucking obvious how you get rid of them

This just goes to prove that people hype up shit and spread lies about a load of crap they don't understand. There is a psychology to EVERYTHING, no exceptions just because you don't understand it. You fucking twads.
And lastly - as for the bullshit about the staff admin closing the chat admin help because they didn't want to get hacked... They CLOSED the chat because the first place to go for immediate help IS the chats. And therefore there would've been craploads of people accessing that chat and sending them pointless links about something they already know about. And making the chat server crash from the sheer number of people going into just that one chat.
So spare me the bullshit. The only way you can get hacked is if YOU put in your details YOURSELF. You can't get hacked just by visiting a webpage

I mean =
JessicaSephiroth is taking advantage of this by posting this bullshit journal entry:
[link] claiming keyloggers are going to take over the world and grab their family's bank details and wipe their account and all kinds of shit. I've seen her spamming more accounts with links going back to her profile for pageviews than these spam comments spam themselves. She never once said 'here's the link to my journal for more information' she always said click on my icon.

So don't come to me with your crap about 'my account got hacked because I was sent this really obvious link that looked like something cool' because I'm not going to buy it. The link IS obvious. And don't you think that perfectly decent people, who never spam on Deviantart incase they get banned and about 95% are against things like myspace bloggy things anyway, would suddenly start spamming their friend's pages with a load of shit? Hundreds of times?
